It?s that time of the year again when the cold weather and snow fill the Mountains of Pennsylvania. Time to get out and enjoy the crisp weather, but the big question is where is the best place to go? There are many things to consider when choosing a place to enjoy the winter in the area with many wonderful resorts offering their own private ski slopes.
Skytop Lodge located in Skytop, PA offers a large amount of winter activities including a private ski slope that offers downhill ski or snowboarding with gentle slopes and a vertical drop of 295 feet. If you?re feeling adventurous go cross-country on trails from Indian Ladder Falls to Goose Pond to back-country routes or perhaps you have always wanted to go dog sledding. They also offer sledding, tobogganing, snow shoeing and ice skating on their own outdoor weather protected rink. This resort boosts a 1920 look with a modern day feel, full service spa and salon, American plan, and a vast amount of activities located on 5,500 acres.
Camelback Mountain Resort is a ski and snowboard resort located in the Pocono Mountains region in Tannersville, Pennsylvania at Big Pocono State Park offers year round vacation rental, condos and town house. Camelback Mountain itself reaches an elevation of 2133 feet. There are 160 acres of skiing & snowboarding terrain the mountains has a total of 34 slopes the longest of which is 1 mile.
Another wonderful resort is the Chateau nestled at the base of Camelback Mountain, the Chateau Resort is the closest full-service resort to Camelback ski. Complete with heated indoor pool, whirlpool, sauna, and exercise room. Enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Camelback Mountain before you hit the slopes.
Tanglewood resort located right off the shores of Lake Wallenpaupack offers a quiet relaxing getaway. Tanglwood has 40 one bedroom units and 34 two bedroom units with indoor pool and health club. Located minutes away from some of the best skiing in the area including Big bear mountain, Elk Mountain, Sno Mountain and Blue Mountain.
Woodloch Pines Resort located in Hawley near Lake Wallenpaupack also offers vast amount of winter activities that you can enjoy with out ever laving the resort. The Have snowshoeing, snow mobiling, winter hay rides and ice skating. Woodloch offers all inclusive family vacations packages that include 3 meals daily, nightly entertainment, and accommodation that range from classic standard rooms to waterfront suites with private balconies.
Another great winter activity on the lake is ice skating there are many places where you can slip on your skates and test out the ice. And if you are lucky you may just see some of the ice dancers, but for a real treat why not try your hand at Ice golf. This nine hole golf tournament held every year in February is a real treat for participants and spectators alike. Two nine-hole courses will be created near Ehrhardt?s Waterfront Restaurant as they have been for the last twenty years. Started by a group of local restaurant owner this event also boosts an ice bar and wacky hat contest as well as closest to the hole putting contest.
